“The Damn Knicks” Feature film Proof of Concept

A screwball New York sports comedy about loyalty, losing, and what happens when the city finally wins.

The Damn Knicks follows Smitty — a blue-collar New Yorker juggling three jobs and one hopeless basketball team — who drunkenly “sells” his Knicks fanhood the very night they become contenders. What starts as a bad joke turns viral, forcing Smitty into the spotlight as the city’s most reluctant symbol of hope.

Written and directed by Bobby Friedman (Rhode Island Flickers Film Festival, Amazon Prime Video, Tubi) and starring Michael Alix (Tires, Hacks, Daredevil, Pitch Perfect), the film blends the humor and heartbreak of Fever Pitch and Celtic Pride with the energy of modern New York indie comedy.

A love letter to Knicks fans — and to anyone who’s ever stayed loyal too long — The Damn Knicks captures the relentlessness, absurdity, and heart that define New York itself.
